ATLANTA (May 3, 2025) — Gisele Thompson scored the first goal of her NWSL career with help from — none other than — her sister, Alyssa Thompson.
The two made league history Friday night as the only sisters to combine for a goal. Alyssa kicked a left-footed cross to a streaking Gisele, who found the back of the net in the 22nd minute. Angel City ultimately defeated the Washington Spirit 4-3, for its third victory of the season.
After the goal, the sisters shared a celebration of pure elation. A wide-eyed Alyssa couldn’t believe she had the honor of assisting her little sister’s first professional goal.
“I thought I would have been the one to score, but it was so nice Gisele got her first goal and I had the assist to her,” Alyssa said. “I was just so excited after. I couldn’t believe it happened.”
For Gisele, it was a childhood dream realized.
“We’ve always dreamed about this, especially in this high level of football,” Gisele said. “Doing it together is amazing. Getting my first goal is so incredible. Dream come true.”
Alyssa, 20, and Gisele, 19, began playing together on Angel City in 2024. Gisele joined a year after Alyssa signed with their hometown squad in 2023. Earlier this year, both sisters agreed to contract extensions with Angel City to remain in Los Angeles through 2028.
The Thompson sisters also contributed to U.S. Women’s National Team history when they started the SheBelieves Cup second match in February. They became the third sister duo to start a USWNT game together; Kristie and Samantha Mewis were the first in 2014. Lorrie and Ronnie Fair were the first pair of sisters to play together in a USWNT match in 1997, but they never started together.
The Thompsons haven’t connected for an international goal yet, but when the opportunity arises, it too will be a moment for the sisters to cherish.
