A Healthy Trinity Rodman Returns to USWNT for October Matches
Rodman last competed with the United States in the April FIFA international window
Trinity Rodman has played in a United States shirt just once so far in 2025.
The lone U.S. Women’s National Team match this year that featured a Rodman appearance came in April in a 2-0 win against Brazil at SoFi Stadium. Rodman made an immediate impact, scoring the opening goal less than 10 minutes into the match.
A lingering back injury kept the 23-year-old forward away from the National Team for a collective 13 months across five camps since the squad earned gold at the 2024 Paris Olympics. Now, she’s ready to once again represent the crest.
“I’m super excited to have Trin back with the group — but a healthy Trin,” USWNT head coach Emma Hayes said. “When she came in April, she really felt she was in a good place. But the reality was, I think so much adrenaline got her through that game in LA, but afterwards, that reality hit home that there were some issues in her back that were unresolved.”
Rodman returned to the Washington Spirit after the April matches, and with the Spirit and the USWNT staff working together, devised a comprehensive plan to ensure that when she came back, it was for the long run.
After about four months of continued rehab, Rodman made her triumphant return to the NWSL on Aug. 3 against Portland Thorns FC and scored the game-winning goal shortly after entering the match. She has appeared in 14 matches across all competitions since, recording seven goals and two assists in that span.
Now, she and the Spirit are primed for a playoff run this fall. Washington was the second team to clinch a postseason berth and aim to reclaim the title last won in 2021.
Before the playoff run, the star forward will get a chance at her second match of 2025 in the USWNT’s October matches as Hayes named Rodman to the 26-player roster. The USA is set to face Portugal on Oct. 23 in Chester, Pa.. and Oct. 26 in East Hartford, Conn. before finishing the FIFA window vs. New Zealand on Oct. 29 in Kansas City, Mo.
“I know she’s excited to come back and play for the National Team, but she’s doing it in a place where I think she’s had to build a lot of foundational work around her back,” Hayes said. “She’s one of the best players in the world, and we’ve had to play without her for more than a year. I’m of course super excited that she’s back in, but most importantly, that she’s here with us in a healthy place.”
