BUCARAMANGA, Colombia (August 12, 2025) - The U.S. Men’s Cerebral Palsy (CP) National Team utilized a second-half goal from Shea Hammond to earn a 1-0 win against Colombia, in its second of three matches during its training camp in South America.
With a 17-player roster, head coach Stuart Sharp made four changes to the starting seven from Sunday’s 2-1 win, with Wes Pincince, Kevin Hensley, Adam Ballou and Kyle Montgomery starting, alongside returnees Jake Kaplan, Marc Estrella and Hammond.
Pincince led the team with the captain’s armband for the first time. For Hensley, this marked his first match since Sept. 22, 2017, when he featured in a 3-2 win over Ireland at the CP Football World Championships in Argentina. The game also featured the international debuts for two players who are 34 years apart entering in the second half: 16-year-old forward Ryan Wlodyka and goalkeeper Bonner Rinn, who at 50 years old becomes the oldest athlete to represent a U.S. Soccer National Team in any discipline.
The U.S. started the match with more intensity and control than Sunday. Hammond had two solid chances early that were easily saved and Pincince had a header off a Ballou corner go barely over the crossbar.
However, it was Colombia that threatened and would have led if not for three fantastic saves from Estrella. He first denied Sergio Castro’s shot from 20 yards out with a fully-stretched diving tip save to his left, then a similar save to his right to save Cristian Hurtado’s attempt from distance, and again stopping Castro’s effort from 22 with another dive to his left.
Meanwhile, Hensley was involved in three good attempts, first with a flicked header off a corner that went over the bar, then a threaded back-post pass to Ballou that was saved, and finally a with a rip from 25 that was nicely saved just before the break.
With planned substitutes waiting to enter shortly after the second half whistle, Jake Kaplan intercepted a long goal kick by heading the ball back up-field to Hammond, who beat one marker and carried two others into the box before deftly touching the ball past the on-rushing ‘keeper to put the USA on top with his 22nd international goal.
The chances were less frequent from then on, but more dangerous as both sides hit the woodwork. Colombia nearly tied the match in the 51st minute when Daniel Otero’s shot skimmed off the left post. Ben Lindau then nearly doubled the lead with a free kick off the crossbar. Colombia again nearly leveled but Sebastian Leon’s dipping shot over Rinn also hit the crossbar.
The teams will meet for the third and final time during the USA’s week in South American on Thursday, August 14 at 11:30 a.m. ET (10:30 a.m. local time).
