U.S. Men’s Beach Soccer National Team Advances to Semifinals of 2025 Concacaf Beach Soccer Championship with 5-1 Win Against Panama
Ricardo Carvalho, Andres Navas Braces and Gabe Silveira’s Goal Highlight Dominant Team Performance; Beach MNT to Face El Salvador for Berth in 2025 FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup Saturday (6 p.m. ET; Tubi, ViX)
NASSAU, Bahamas (March 13, 2025) – Needing a two-goal win in regular time to advance to the knockout round, the U.S. Men’s Beach Soccer National Team used braces from Ricardo Carvalho, and Andres Navas, as well as a strike from Gabe Silveira to deliver a dominant 5-1 victory against Panama in its Group B finale at the 2025 Concacaf Beach Soccer Championship at Malcolm Park Beach Soccer Stadium on Thursday.
The victory, combined with Bahamas’ 5-4 win against Trinidad and Tobago sees the USA finish second in Group B, setting up a semifinal showdown on Saturday against El Salvador for a place in the 2025 FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup in Seychelles.
FIRST PERIOD
The USA came close again 90 seconds later when Gabe Silveira played a ball for Alessandro Canale just to the right of goal. The veteran attacker gave a simple flick which looped over Londoño and clanged off the left post before being cleared.
Continuing to push, the Beach MNT found a second through Carvalho with 53 seconds left in the first. Akol was fouled in the USA’s defensive end and saw his well-hit free kick saved by Londoño,but Carvalho was there on the doorstep to slam home the rebound, giving the side a 2-0 lead heading into the first intermission.
SECOND PERIOD
Carvalho nearly grabbed a hat trick at 7:26 of the second period. Goalkeeper Chris Toth juggled the ball forward and drove a pinging effort toward the right post where Carvalho redirected it past Londoño before it hit off the crossbar.
Panama made it 2-1 with five minutes remaining as Maquensi was allowed to stroll through midfield before popping up a bicycle kick on the left and beating Toth inside the top right corner.
The U.S. caught Panama out in transition to restore its two-goal lead. Silveira won the ball on the left and lobbed it forward for Andres Navas on the run who finished past Londoño at the right post to make it 3-1 with 2:59 left in the second period.
THIRD PERIOD
Navas grabbed a brace of his own with 8:48 remaining when the ball fell perfectly for him in front of goal, before the Miami product smashed his effort off the underside of the crossbar and just over the line to make it 5-1 with 8:48 left.
That goal capped the scoring, but the USA then put in a powerful defensive performance, allowing Panama few chances through the remaining minutes to close out the match and confirm a place in the semifinals.
The USA has advanced from the group stage nine times, doing so in every qualifying tournament since 2009.
Ricardo Carvalho scored his seventh and eighth international goals and recorded his second career brace in his 19th overall appearance.
Andres Navas tallied his 10th and 11th career goals and also registered his second career brace.
Earning his 63rd cap, Gabe Silveira bagged his 48th career goal as well as his 10th career assist on Navas’ second period goal.
Forward Alessandro Canale made his 99th career appearance for the United States, putting him in line for his 100th appearance in Saturday’s semifinal and World Cup qualifying decider. Canale will be the second Beach MNT player to reach 100 caps, following Chris Toth who achieved the milestone at last year’s Beach Soccer World Cup in Dubai.
