CHICAGO (Jan. 13, 2025) – U.S. Women’s Futsal National Team head coach Marcia Tafarael has called up 18 players to take part in the team’s upcoming training camp to be held Jan. 15-21 at Dulles Sportsplex in Sterling, Va.
As part of U.S. Soccer’s strategy to encourage, enable and celebrate the game in all of its forms, the January gathering is the first of three training camps prior to the 2025 Concacaf Women’s Futsal Championship in April, which will serve as qualification for the inaugural FIFA Women’s Futsal World Cup, to be held Nov. 7-Dec. 21 in the Philippines.
"This camp in Sterling is a crucial step in building a strong foundation for the future of women's futsal in the United States,” Tafarel said. “We've continued to identify and develop talented players, fostering a competitive spirit, and working toward qualifying for the World Cup later this year. The dedication and passion of these athletes is truly inspiring."
The roster has a local flare, with three players each coming from Virginia and Maryland, including fixos Jordan Felton (Waldorf, Md.), Hayley Wilson (Leonardtown, Md.), ala Carlyn Baldwin (Oakton, Va.), and pivos Ellie Goodrich (Alexandria, Va.), Sarah Martin (Bowie, Md.) and Paige Pierson (Sterling, Va.).
Additionally, former NWSL player Mana Shim (Honolulu, Hawaii), who formerly served as the Chair of U.S. Soccer’s Participant Safety Taskforce, returns to the Futsal WNT after taking part in the team’s inaugural Identification Camp in March 2023.
Following this month’s camp, the Futsal WNT will gather again to play its first international matches during training camp from Feb. 21-March 2 in San Jose, Costa Rica. Final preparation will take place during another training camp in early April, before Tafarel names her roster for the Concacaf Women’s Futsal Championship later that month.
