CHICAGO (April 24, 2023) – The Third Round of the 2023 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup begins Tuesday, April 25 with eight games and continues through a busy Wednesday, April 26 with 16 more. Of those 24 games, all but two could produce Cupsets as inter-division play dominates the schedule.
The Third Round marks the entrance of 18 Major League Soccer (MLS) teams from American professional soccer’s top-tier. The rest of the 48 competitors either hail from lower pro leagues: USL Championship (Division II), USL League One and NISA (both Division III), or in the case of Tulsa Athletic (USASA/NPSL/Okla.) and Chicago House AC (USASA/MWPL/Ill.), the all-amateur Open Division.
The two biggest David vs. Goliath contests are amateurs Chicago House AC vs. Chicago Fire (MLS) and Tulsa Athletic vs. four-time champions Sporting Kansas City. Both matches will be available to stream LIVE via Teamcasts. Overall, there will be LIVE streams for eight games on the Bleacher Report App and B/R Football’s YouTube Channel, three more on the CBS Sports Golazo Network, and an additional six games available via Teamcast from the participating clubs.
