The Volkswagen Honoree Spotlight program is a collaboration between U.S. Soccer and VW to highlight children with a passion for the game. The VW Honoree for the U.S. Women’s National Team’s April 12 match against Uzbekistan is eight-year-old Penelope C. from Media, Pennsylvania. Penelope loves soccer and the lessons it teaches in teamwork. She encourages her siblings, teammates and classmates to do their best.

Who is your favorite U.S. Soccer player and why?

Rose Lavelle!  My middle name is Rose, and I like to play midfield just like her.

 

Why do you love soccer?

I love soccer because it is my favorite sport and I love being part of a team.

 

What is the most important lesson you have learned from playing sports?

Never give up and have fun no matter what.

 

What are you most looking forward to in 2022?

Christmas, always Christmas!

 

Who inspires you the most and why?

My twin brother, Rocco.  He made me believe that I was good enough to play soccer.

 

What do you want to be when you grow up?

A veterinarian.

 

What or who are you thankful for?

My family.
