Gio Reyna put his best foot forward trying to become Borussia Dortmund's miracle worker Saturday, but fell just short. The 18-year-old midfielder came off the bench to spark his Bundesliga team, assisting on its lone goal in a 2-1 home defeat to Köln.

The U.S. attacker entered the match for Felix Passlack in the 67th minute along with 16-year-old Youssoufa Moukoko, giving the hosts some much-needed life down the stretch.

Reyna, who started in Dortmund's 3-0 win over Club Brugge in the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday, assisted on fellow substitute Thorgan Hazard's 74th-minute goal. After a quick change of possession in the Köln end, Reyna sent Hazard in on the left with a perfectly weighted pass. The Belgian international fired a 12-yard shot past goalkeeper Timo Horn into the far corner to slice the lead in half.

The USMNT midfielder, teammates and Köln players wore black armbands to pay their respects to soccer legend Diego Maradona, who passed away at the age of 60 on Wednesday. Many European squads wore armbands in Maradona's memory on Saturday.

Defender John Brooks experienced ecstasy and agony in Wolfsburg's wild 5-3 win against Werder Bremen on Friday, scoring a goal for his side and an own goal for the visitors. He put Wolfsburg into a 2-1 lead in the 25th minute, heading in a Josip Brekalo free kick for his first goal of the season.

Brooks, however, put the ball into his own net a minute into the second half to knot things up at 3-3. Wolfsburg pulled away thanks to Wout Weghorst’s second goal of the match in the 76th minute and Bartosz Bialek’s strike in stoppage time.

Bremen striker Josh Sargent never got to be part of the action as he was a late scratch after suffering an ankle injury during warm-ups. It was not clear how long Sargent might be sidelined.

Midfielder Duane Holmes tallied his first goal of the season for Derby County in its 1-1 home draw with Wycombe Wanderers in the English Championship. Holmes backheeled a pass from Colin Kazim-Richards past goalkeeper Ryan Allsop to give the hosts a 1-0 advantage in the 36th minute before Matthew Bloomfield 81^st minute effort spoiled the day for Derby. Holmes was replaced by Jason Knight in the 67th minute.

Tyler Adams showcased his versatility in RB Leipzig's 2-1 home win over Arminia Bielefeld, playing three positions at various stages of the Bundesliga match. He started at center midfield. At halftime, he moved to right wing back and after an injury to a teammate, he switched to a pure right back spot. While he did not figure in Leipzig's scoring, the former New York Red Bulls midfielder played his usual box-to-box game in the opening half. Several times he served as Leipzig's last man on defense while his backline teammates went on attack.

Midfielder Yunus Musah started and played 71 minutes in Valencia's 1-0 home defeat to Atletico Madrid in Spain's La Liga.

On Sunday, Sergiño Dest started Barcelona’s 4-0 win against Osasuna. The right back departed the match in the 61^st minute with Barca leading 3-0.

Midfielder Johnny Cardoso started and went 59 minutes in Internacional’s 0-0 draw at Atlético Goianiense on Saturday.

Striker Nicholas Gioacchini came off the bench in the 64^th minute to help Caen earn a 1-1 draw with Chateauroux in French Ligue 2.

Midfielder Weston McKennie, who became the first USMNT player to start a Champions League match for an Italian club in a 2-1 win over Ferencváros on Tuesday, was in the 18 for Juventus on Saturday. However, McKennie did not feature in its 1-1 away tie with Benevento in a Serie A match.

Goalkeeper Zack Steffen was on the bench for Manchester City’s 5-0 rout of Burnley on Saturday.

Winger Christian Pulisic returned to the field, coming on as a substitute in the 74th minute of Chelsea's scoreless home draw with Tottenham on Sunday. He had missed six club matches and hadn't played since the Blues' 4-0 win at Krasnodar in the UEFA Champions League on Oct. 28.

 

Konrad de la Fuente scored for Barcelona B in its 2-1 win against Lleida Esportiu in Spain's Segunda B on Sunday.

Within a four-minute span of Columbus Crew SC's 2-0 victory over Nashville SC on Sunday, forward Gyasi Zardes took over the game. After a scoreless 90 minutes, the USMNT striker helped break the deadlock when his low cross from the left allowed Pedro Santos to put home a one-time effort in the 99^th minute.

Four minutes later, Zardes latched onto a beautiful through ball from Luis Díaz and put home his fifth career MLS postseason goal to seal the 2-0 win for the hosts.

 

 

Goalkeeper Matt Turner enjoyed a memorable six days, backstopping a pair of wins for the New England Revolution. On Tuesday, Nov. 24, he made four saves while recording a clean sheet in a 2-0 first-round win at the Philadelphia Union, the Supporters' Shield winners.

 

On Sunday, Nov. 29, with the Revs clinging to a 2-1 lead against host Orlando City SC, Turner dove to his right to save Nani's penalty kick in the 74^th minute. Gustavo Buo added a another for New England in the 86^th minute to see them earn a 3-1 win. The Revolution will visit Columbus Crew SC in the Eastern Conference Final on December 6.

 

Winger Jordan Morris scored a goal and assisted on another in Seattle Sounders FC's 3-1 win over the LAFC on Tuesday, Nov. 24. The midfielder set up Nicolás Lodeiro for the hosts' opening goal in the 18th minute. After two near misses in the second half, putting an open shot wide and hitting the woodwork earlier, Morris found the range with an insurance goal in the 80th minute.
